A smiling man and woman in U.S. military uniforms pose together in front of a green wall with a framed painting behind them. Below the photo is a black background with bold white text that reads: "DISABLED U.S. VETERAN ABDUCTED DURING I.C.E. RAID IS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN."

Unpacking reports ICE detained disabled veteran

Claims have circulated online this month that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained George Retes, a disabled veteran and U.S. citizen, during an immigration raid at a farm in Camarillo, California.

Retes worked security at the farm, according to social media posts. His family allegedly did not receive any information about his whereabouts after ICE detained him, the posts added. Snopes web producer/reporter Megan Loe investigated.

A white man is shown speaking below images of people sobbing and rescuers in a canoe on the river. Text above the man says, "Mexican rescuers arrested in flood."

Clarifying claim ICE deported Mexican rescue workers who helped in Texas floods

The rumor stemmed from an AI-generated video that appeared to show Texas Gov. Greg Abbott endorsing the alleged deportation of Mexican volunteers.

Snopes has been busy fact-checking political claims, including President Donald Trump's new administration. But we look into claims on every topic, not just politics. For instance, a fact check we published recently was about a video claiming hundreds of grizzly bears left Yellowstone National Park, featured later in this newsletter. We need your help to keep doing this far-ranging work. By building our membership, we will be able to continue cutting straight to the facts on any subject our readers are interested in. We appreciate any support you can give.

Trump border czar didn't say 'Give me one good reason kids and seniors can't pick lettuce'

The satirical Fox News chyron presumably referenced immigration raids at farms under U.S. President Donald Trump's administration.

White House shared image depicting Trump as Superman

A new "Superman" film debuted in the U.S. last Friday.

Video claiming hundreds of grizzly bears left Yellowstone National Park isn't what it seems

A video of bears in a South Dakota-based wildlife park was misleadingly shared as a video of bears leaving Yellowstone.

A person in military-style clothing stands in the foreground, observing a flooded area where two heavily damaged SUVs are partially submerged and wedged against trees. One vehicle is tilted on its side and a small overturned boat is also caught among the trees. The scene shows the aftermath of a severe flood, with fast-moving water and debris scattered around.
