Did Trump allow 660M pounds of beef into US after meeting with JBS owner?
Posts claimed Trump was allowing 660 million pounds of tariff-free beef to be brought into the U.S. after he met with the owner of JBS — a Brazilian multinational meat-processing company — who allegedly asked the president to lower tariffs on Brazilian beef.
According to the rumor, the company would buy the meat in question and benefit from the reduced duty, despite the European Union restricting Brazilian beef imports after their cattle couldn't meet antibiotic safety standards.
Reporting fellow Aleksandra Wrona looked into Trump's proclamation expanding beef imports, the reported meeting between the president and the JBS owner, and the EU's restrictions on Brazilian beef.
