Harris Proposed $25K Down Payment Plan for First-Time Homebuyers, But Not Undocumented Immigrants
As the 2024 election approached, internet users shared claims that Democratic candidate and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris had proposed a plan to give $25,000 in down payment help for first-time homebuyers that would benefit only immigrants (archived).
While it is true that this proposal for first-time homebuyers is one of Harris' campaign promises, it expands on an existing plan. Further, based on current housing legislation, it was unlikely that undocumented immigrants would benefit from it. Snopes reporter Anna Rascouët-Paz has the details.
