Delayed Vote Totals Don't Mean Voter Fraud Is Happening

As Election Day 2024 approached in the U.S., suspicions mounted about the electoral process. Internet users — largely those who supported former President Donald Trump — began to claim that a delay in reporting voting totals must indicate fraud (archived).

However, tallying votes can take time because different states follow different procedures to process and count mail-in and absentee votes. This means that delayed results are not necessarily an indicator of fraud. Snopes reporter Anna Rascouët-Paz has the details.
