Snopes reaches 20,000 paying members, now primary revenue source
We want to thank all of our members for stepping up and keeping Snopes alive.
Snopes has dramatically increased its membership program, going from under 2,400 paying members at the start of 2025 to now over 20,000.
If we had not switched to focusing on memberships for revenue, Snopes would have been dead in the water. Without our members, we could not even cover half of our expenses.
The internet has transitioned to quick AI-generated answers and social media posts without fact-checking.
Unfortunately, we have continued to see further declines in site traffic from platforms. Memberships have kept us close to breaking even or having a small loss each month this year.
Snopes memberships are now over 60% of our revenue.
Our next goal is 30,000 members so we can stop feeling worried about the declines in site traffic and get back to hiring. There is so much misinformation out there, and we want to tackle all that we can. The world's problems only get worse when misinformation takes over.
